A rural NorCal girl of European and Japanese descent,  I became a devout yogini at the age of 17. The land of shakti sparked my hunger for Indian arts – Yoga, Ayurveda, Tantra, Sanskrit, Vedic chanting, and a deep devotion to spices.

Dearest seeker,

Thank you for finding yourself here.

I, Kameko Shibata, am an ERY-500 Yoga Teacher, Ayurvedic Practitioner, Massage Therapist, professional aerialist and wild creature. I hold a Master of Arts in Ayurveda from Mount Madonna Institute, with 15 years clinic practice in Ayurvedic counseling and massage therapy. I am honored to practice and teach yoga in the Krishnamacharya tradition of vinyasa krama for more than 17 years. I bring an international and inclusive lens to my offerings, being of Japanese and European descent, raised in rural northern California, I studied Yoga and Ayurveda in India, and taught extensively in the Bay Area, CA for a decade. I currently reside and teach in person (and online) in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, México. In 2007, I founded Nadi Girl Ayurveda, which provides Ayurvedic holistic health services to individuals and groups internationally focusing on female/queer/non binary health.  I directed and led three international 200/ 300 Hour YA Certified Yoga-Ayurveda Teacher Trainings and taught for countless others, and love helping new teachers find their voices. My teachings reflect love, curiosity and dedication to yoga, Ayurveda, self-care, activism and the natural world. And is an invitation for your own healing and care.

Style:

Delicious vinyasa classes, rooted in the Krishnamacharya tradition of vinyasa krama invite you to come deeply into your breath and body through: thoughtful sequencing, moderate pace, challenging asanas, traditional philosophy, pranayama, bandhas, chants and the occasional swear word for a refreshingly honest experience. I weave knowledge of Ayurveda, anatomy, tantra, classical texts, sanskrit, circus arts and passion for social justice and natural snark into classes which offer insight and relief for the challenges of modern life. I strives to see students– and as a bodyworker offers individual attention, useful but non generic alignment and deliciously safe adjustments (in a live context, when it's safe to touch people!)

Influences:

My focus on the traditional elements of Yoga, Ayurveda and Tantra are informed by numerous studies in India and Nepal, including the “vinyasa krama” system at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram. I hold an BA in Sociolgy from UC Berkely and a MA in Ayurveda from Mount Madonna Institute, as well as an Ayurvedic Health Counselor certification through the National Medical Ayurvedic Association and a Massage Therapy Certification in California.

I have had the great fortune to have more than 5,000 hours of training with master teachers including: Dr. Vasant Lad, Swami Santhiprasad, Dr. Rucha Kelkhar, DeAnna Batdorff, Ana Forrest, Mary Paffard, Vickie Russell Bell (restorative), Mark Whitwell and Alice Joanou.  I am inspire by aerial acrobatics, 5 rhythms dance, Vipassana Meditation, Indigenous ceremonies, primitive skills, vedic chanting, ecological and social justice, herbal medicine and spices of all kinds. When not dangling in the air from aerial ropes, surfing in the sea, studying on the mat, or cooking in the kitchen I can be found chilling with my dog-child, Peka.

I am in deep gratitude to all the teachers, students, clients, and friends who have helped make this work possible. Through our collective dedication these ancient practices are healing this modern world. It is the belief in self-care and healing that sustains this work.

Thank you to all who are dedicated to this path. May you find home.
